I watched our seasoned politicians blatantly lie during the televised hearing on the ZTE scandal. I wonder how they can stomach twisting the truth to their benefit and how they sound so confident when their defense is so flimsy. How can they smoothly and subtly (but mostly outrightly) assassinate the character of Lozada and claim that he is the one who is lying? Of all the people present in the hearing last night, he had the least to gain. Why expose his private life to public scrutiny? Why endanger the lives of his loved ones? He must have a peculiar sense of humor if he’s doing all this just for kicks. The poor guy looked so dismayed and his face was a picture of disbelief as Atienza and company refuted his statements. Again, if he made it all up, what was his point? Why waste his time in the company of shady characters, otherwise known as our esteemed Senators and congressmen?
Lozada gave his statements without faltering. His facts have remained consistent and never in his presscon did he stumble or jumble his facts. I cannot understand how there can be people who will swindle millions for personal gain–people who were sworn into office to protect the people and who swore to serve for the common good. How can they demand for so much when all around them, their countrymen are struggling to go through the day and to stretch their P38 (amount they claim you can survive on daily) to cover the basic necessities? $100 million dollars. My goodness. How can they go through with the deal and how do they think they can get away with it?
I find it so sad that corruption is so prevalent and such an accepted way of life that instead of trying to prevent it, the solution is to “moderate their greed.” For lack of better words…my gosh. My gosh. What a sad, sick world they live in. What a sad, sick world we created.
