I had a post-Valentine’s dinner last night with the prettiest single girls in the South. Initially we were supposed to eat in Vivere but when I found out that it was catered by Skyline (which is the caterer of my company), I persuaded them to eat in the Old Swiss Inn instead.

The first time I ate there last year, I was impressed by the ambiance but my olfactory sense was assaulted by the smell of patis that pervaded the place. We later found out that the offensive smell was actually an expensive kind of cheese which the waiter assured us didn’t taste as bad as it smelled like.

Last night, there was no expensive cheese to ruin the mood. While waiting for the food to arrive, I snacked on the free bread, which was kind of like a more sophisticated kind of pan de sal…soooo good! I think I finished the whole basket by myself! Then the cheese fondue arrived. It was my first time to try it and the unusual combination of melted cheese and liquor was very, very, very delicious!

The girls shared a platter of sausage but since I’m not too fond of cold cuts (I am of the firm belief that food should be hot) I ordered a peppercorn steak with a side of french fries. It wasn’t as good as I thought it would be–it had a lot of pepper (heehee). I’d rather prefer an old-fashioned garlic steak. I was actually supposed to order lamb but I backed out when I saw the price because I only had P2,000 with me since my mom and I came from a shopping spree earlier in the day (okay, it was more like I sprung while she watched..heehee). Nevertheless, I ended up eating everything on my plate, pepper and all.

We were too full for dessert but since we didn’t want to leave each other yet, we went downstairs to San Francisco Coffee. I had peppermint tea with milk to detoxify. I was already full but I couldn’t resist the big chocolate crinkle they had for sale so I ordered one for take out. I haven’t eaten it yet. I hope it’s good!
