Is global warming really at hand?
I was reading the “Planet at Peril” blog of CNN this morning and was alarmed because the Arctic ice shelf is melting at an alarming rate. The saddest evidence that points to global warming is that polar bears are drowning! Since the ice floes which they perch upon to hunt and raise their little cubs are melting, they’re forced to swim further and further away from shore and though they’re naturally good swimmers, sometimes they don’t make it back. :(
What to do?!

One of the best and worst things about my new workplace its its proximity to a mall. No more toilet paper? No problem, Watson’s is just a minute’s walk away. Craving for munchkins? Why, Dunkin’ Donuts is conveniently located at the foot of the stairs! Want to be the first to get the latest issue of Yes! magazine? Stop by National Bookstore on your way back from lunch! Everything’s literally just a stone’s throw away.
Of course, that can also be a bad thing. Everyday I pass by all my favorite stores (I can’t help it, there’s no other available route!) and I am so, so, soooo tempted to make a pilgrimage each and every time. Last week alone, I spent so much on books, clothes and food…on my first day! Huhuhu. I must learn to control myself!
This afternoon, since we still had a lot of time to kill before the end of our lunch break, we decided to pass by Timezone and sing. I wow’ed my officemates with my horribly off-key yet enthusastic doble-kara version of “Sinta” by Aegis, which in my opinion is the best karaoke song. We ended our set by singing EWF’s “September” in honor of the month. Can’t wait til our next session!

Nag-usap sina Ampalaya at Kamatis…
AMPALAYA: Ang kinis mo naman! Sabagay… kukulubot ka rin!
KAMATIS: Nasasabi mo lang ‘yan, kasi, bitter ka!
Bentang-benta!! Hehehe!! :)

I wonder why in concerts or sports events, celebrities feel the urge to throw their possessions to the audience, whether it be a guitar pick as in the case of Maroon 5 or brand-new caps like April Boy. It is of equal mystery to me why there is a mad scramble on the part of the fans to get that object even if they do not even own a guitar or will not be caught wearing a cap emblazoned with April Boy’s name.
This afternoon, after the intense game between the two green teams, one of the players tossed his headband in triumph and as luck would have it, it landed at my feet! I was tempted to pick it up since it was Nike but I recoiled in disgust because as my foot brushed against it, the sweat on the band literally wet my newly pedicured, Havana (yes, without the I)-clad toes. Ewww! I am not that much of a fanatic to go wild over the body fluid-soaked paraphernalia of any basketball player, no matter how talented he may be. I gingerly picked it up between to fingers and handed it to a little boy who was looking at it longingly. Whatever makes him happy. :)

We won!!! It was far from being a close fight and towards the end, I felt bad for the red team whenever I would see the strained, frustrated look on the coach’s face as he still tried to push his tired players until the very end. The comments from the supposedly educated audience didn’t help as some of them openly taunted the coach to call on his older brother (also a coach who incidentally propelled his team to victory in the previous game) for help. There’s something about sports that brings out the inner cavemen in men.
Go asul!!

I’ve been listening to this song nonstop the whole day. It’s about a man who refuses to move from the place where he and his ex first met just in case she changes her mind and comes back for him. Awwwww. Such a sweet song without being overly emo. :)
Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag. I’m not gonna move,
Got some words on cardboard got your picture in my hand,
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am,
Some try to hand me money they don’t understand,
I’m not… broke I’m just a broken hearted man,
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do,
How can I move on when I’ve been in love with you…
Cos if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you’d come back here to the place that we’d meet,
And you’d see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.
So I’m not moving…
I’m not moving.
Policeman says son you can’t stay here,
I said there’s someone I’m waiting for if it’s a day, a month, a year,
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows,
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.
I’m not moving…
I’m not moving.
People talk about the guy
Whos waiting on a girl…
Oohoohwoo
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world…
Hmmmm
Maybe I’ll get famous as man who can’t be moved,
And maybe you won’t mean to but you’ll see me on the news,
And you’ll come running to the corner…
Cos you’ll know it’s just for you
I’m the man who can’t be moved
I’m the man who can’t be moved…
Cos if one day you wake up and find that you’re missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you’d come back here to the place that we’d meet,
And you’d see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.
[Repeat in background]
So I’m not moving…
I’m not moving.
I’m not moving…
I’m not moving.
Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag not I’m not gonna move.

I’m in love with a new animal! It’s almost as pretty as giraffes which isn’t surprising, considering that they’re relatives. Okapis are a cross between giraffes (though their necks are not as long) and zebras. For a while, it was believed that they were merely mythical since they’re rather elusive and it was only recently that they were able to take pictures of these animals via camera traps. Soooo pretty! Mahirap lang nga i-drawing. Hehe :)

Instead of spending $6B in an attempt to answer the eternal question on how the earth evolved, why didn’t they just invest in research to improve the current quality of life?
Our much awaited and dreaded sporsfest has come and gone, leaving in its wake sore bodies and healing bruises.
We arrived at the club before 8am, sleepy but full after eating a hearty Jollibee breakfast which most of us had missed since we were all late risers. I experienced a momentary pang of horror when I realized that I had left my one and only pair of cycling shorts in the office.
Pipay arrived several hours later, bringing with her a pair of her cousin’s shorts, a videocam, and a digicam. She served as my unofficial videographer and dutifully captured my attempt at WII DDR, which would probably have gone well if I hadn’t stared at the screen of my partner for the first half of the dance. Unfortunately she msised my tug-of-war stint, where I substituted for some of my teammates just so we wouldn’t forfeit the game. I was the anchor to boot!
Despite my constant practice and mental replays of our dance, I made a lot of mistakes. Nevertheless I had a lot of fun! I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer and at least I fulfilled my cheerleader dreams on my last day in the office. Rah rah rah!
*******
Gio won a medal! Unfortunately it wasn’t a tribute to his athleticism but to his faithfulness in attending practices even if he didn’t have any sport. It’s now with me. Congrats! :)

Every night, as soon as I turn off the lights, a green firefly starts dancing across the room. Or at least, I assume it’s a firefly. Is there any other insect that glows at night? Naturally, this got me thinking:
1) I thought fireflies emit yellow light? Or do the lights come in different colors?
2) Where does it stay during the day? What does it look like without its light? Like an ordinary bug?
There was this unidentified reddish insect flying in my room this morning. As soon as I determined that it wasn’t a cockroach, I decided to let it live lest it be the daylight form of my guardian firefly.

Currently I’m on the 29th floor, whiling away time whilst my boss is in a meeting. He has yet to give me any work lest I be overwhelmed so I’m enjoying the downtime before the pressure starts (and, judging from the comments I heard yesterday, there will be pressure). Though it isn’t raining, the wind is whistling like crazy. Scary!
I attempted to make an anagram for my parents. Happy anniversary!!! :)
